An octopus has got me! Hold still a minute! MOE: Oh! LARRY: I'll get it. Hold still. SHEMP: I give up.
I'll marry you. One woman throws a vase of flowers at the other woman, but she ducks. The vase hits Shemp and knocks him out.
Please, please hurry. SHEMP: Hold hands, you lover birds. LARRY: How are you? MOE: How am I. LARRY: [looks at his watch] We made it.
It's six o'clock and you're married. SHEMP: [confused] What happened? What happened? MOE: You're married, kid. Say something. SHEMP: [looks at Miss Dinkelmeyer and yells] Help!
Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by tsbco1a This episode had so many new and funny gags it was great. I can't you imagine Shemp being a singing instructer.
Also the gags that happened near the end when all the women show up to marry shemp Great episode.
Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by DocWatson Edited by Dunrobin This is probably the most recognized and popular Shemp short.
The gags are priceless, and Shemp's improv skills are memorably on display here. Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by Justin T Not just one of the best Shemp shorts, but one of the best Three Stooges shorts ever PERIOD.
Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by sickdrjoe Edited by shemps 1 Continued re-viewings of BRIDELESS pay continued dividends - some of Shemp's best work here and with the Stooges in general appears in what essentially are solo scenes, such as his 'vocal coach' scene with shrieking soprano Dee Green.
Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by BJR Edited by shemps 1 CLASSIC This is the best Three Stooges short ever, with no exceptions.
This is all three Stooges at their best, and Shemp's performance here is better than any Curly performance IMO. Moe and Larry are also at their best.
Many people say that Who Done It? It just doesn't get any better than the phone booth scene. The one in Scrambled Brains is good too, but this one is better, despite only featuring Moe and Shemp.
The entire last five or six minutes is the longest strand of nonstop laughs I've ever seen -- from the time the boys enter Sitka's place to the ending is nonstop ROFL comedy.
There are just so, so, so many classic lines from this short, but this will have to be my favorite: 5 pokes!!
RE: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by jaronson This is my second favorite Stooge short behind CORNY CASANOVAS mainly because of its many one-liners, especially from Shemp.
Being a music student, I really loved Shemp's remark to Mr. Benton's piano that it was out of tune. This is also one of the only times when Shemp gets to abuse Larry as much as he does, which is executed perfectly.
RE: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by jagman One of the best Shemp episodes ever! Dee Green played against Shemp so well that I'm surprised they didn't use her more often.
Shemp is hilarious as he recoils in horror from her advances. The Fan Club meeting in Pennsylvania earlier this year featured a couple that got married at the Saturday evening banquet; and before the ceremony, they actually played out the Brideless Groom scenes, with the groom as Shemp, the bride as Dee Green, and assorted relatives in other roles.
It was a wonderful evening. Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by tburnell This is one of the funniest Shemp episodes and I'll never forget how hard I laughed the first time I ever saw this one when Moe set up the bear trap and got pushed into it himself.
Great stuff! It's like therapy! Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by Stooge Edited by Stooge An absolute masterpiece, and my 2nd favorite Shemp short only behind WHO DONE IT?
The plot is excellent, the gags are excellent, and each Stooge shines in this short, even Larry.
I especially loved the scene where Shemp and Moe get into a fight in the phone booth. Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by stoogespice This is probably the most hilarious Shemp episode ever made!
Everything about is funny! I like how Shemp's singing student screams more than sings, I like telephone wire tangling, and even the part where one of Shemp's ex-girlfriends pulls strands of Shemp's hair out!
Here are the parts that I think are the funniest: when Christine McIntyre finds out Shemp's not her cousin Basil and slaps him around saying, "How dare you pretend to be my cousin Basil!
This is a must-see for any Stooge fan! I guarantee you'll end up falling down on the floor laughing so long and hard that tears will stream down your face!
Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by Ginger Grey What a great Stooges' short! Definitely, my favorite! There are so many funny lines and memorable scenes.
This is your little snookums Listen, I'm about to do ya a big favor Will ya marry me? Then, Moe and Shemp getting tangled up in the telephone cord, while Larry chews off his fingernails - hilarious.
And what about the hotel employee catching Moe kissing Larry on the cheek, and Moe slapping Larry "Cut it out! Christine McIntyre, Emil "Hold hands, you love birds" Sitka and Dee Green are all terrific, too.
I could go on and on about this one. I love Curly, but this is the funniest Three Stooges' short ever made. An emphatic 4 Pokes! Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by ScooterB This is my favorite Three Stooges' short.
It's hilarious from beginning to end. There are no "dead periods" in this short, at all. The "phone booth" scene just cracks me up and Emil Sitka, Christine McIntyre and Dee Green are terrific.
For a Stooge fan, it doesn't get any better. At least, that's my opinion. Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by FineBari3 I think this is the best Shempie!
I also think this shows off the wonderful stock performers in Emil Sitka and Christine McIntyre; they are both brilliant!
Oh, the woman that plays Dee as well The phone booth scene is just totally hillarious. I laugh the whole way through this short, even if it is one of the PD ones that we have seen times.
Watch Shemp's face as Christine belts him, 'cuz she really pelts him! Shemp ROCKS! Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by ProfessorStooge Out of all the films Shemp made with the Stooges, this one is the best.
The phone booth sequence with Moe and Shemp is a riot and the slapping frenzy with Christine McIntyre is her best performance.
Emil Sitka's "Hold hands, you lovebirds", is one of the most memorable lines in Stooge films. Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by black banana More praise for BRIDELESS GROOM I agree with BJR that this is evenbetter than the excellent WHO DONE IT, which I just saw on AMC.
Besides, it would be nice to have a Shemp short as the champ! It was re-issued in and is available atBorder's Books.
Much of the book was about the Stooges vaudevilledays and later public appearances, which aren't covered much in theother Stooge books. Interesting read.
I always beamed as a kid whenever I saw the words "Professor Shemp Howard Teacher of Voice" knowing I was to be witness to something special.
Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by Genius In the Lamp This is one of my favourite Shemp shorts. It is interesting to see Shemp mete out punishment to Larry for a change.
This was also a high-water mark for Christine McIntyre in the hilarious Cousin Basil scene and Emil Sitka as the embattled Justice of the Peace , both beloved on and off camera.
I've always found it pleasantly amusing to see "Hold hands, you lovebirds" on Emil's gravestone. Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by mg Loved it.
It is one of the best from Shemp. They had a hard time getting Miss McIntyre to really hit Shemp. In the end she almost knocked him out. He was really gorggy after going through that door.
Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by shemp. Still, worth a look if you're a huge Shemp fan, and you can certainly do alot worse, ahem, Joe Besser.
Two and a half pokes! Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by Super service Look you mugs, I wish each of you could see my daughter's face light up when she knows thsi short is about to come on.
She just rolls through the entire lesson scene at the top of the short. I almost get a bigger kick out of watching her enjoy it.
LOLThis is one of Shemp's best to me. At your service day and night, Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by Nicole One of my favorite Shemp shorts.
I'm taking singing lessions, so this is hilarious to me! Just one question, what the heck was going on down there?
I guess some people aren't as mature as I am poke in the eyes! Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by NicktoBarada Love the piano scene where the ring falls inbetween the strings.
Not only does Shemp get his head caught in it, he gets pulled back into the piano by the strings TWICE in a row!!
This, by the way, is the very first stooge short I ever saw. Ah, what a wonderful kick-off to a life of Stoogedom Re: BRIDELESS GROOM Posted by Mike Holme A pretty good Shemp short, the phone skit was pretty funny.
Fortunately, this episode is one of the most common epsiodes to come by because all those companies that make stooges packs sell this episode along with "Malice In The Palace", "Sing A Song of Six Pants", and "Disorder In The Court".
The Three Stooges Volume One: The Knuckleheads Return! IMDb Rating:. Larry Fine Larry. Shemp Howard Shemp. Moe Howard Moe.
Dee Green Fanny Dinkelmeyer. Bertha Priestley Fat woman in hallway. Johnny Kascier Bellboy. The version of " Voices of Spring " during Shemp and Miss Dinkelmeyer's singing lesson was sung by frequent Stooge co-star Christine McIntyre , who appears in this short as "Miss Hopkins".
This version of "Voices of Spring", along with McIntyre herself, were previously used in the Three Stooges short " Micro-Phonies ". Brideless Groom features a sequence with Christine McIntyre who portrays Miss Hopkins, a woman whom Shemp actively pursues for his wife.
Unfortunately, she mistakes him for her cousin Basil. After learning her mistake, she takes it out on poor Shemp by slapping him silly, then finally punching him through her door.
During the filming of the scene, when Christine threw her punch, she leaned too far into it, and hit Shemp for real and broke his nose.
This mistake was left in the film, and when watched in slow motion, Shemp can be seen falling down and opening his mouth like he was yelling in pain after the punch.
Director Edward Bernds remembers getting McIntyre to give Shemp the blows:. Brideless Groom is one of four Columbia Stooge shorts that fell into the public domain after their copyright expired in the s, the other three being Malice in the Palace , Sing a Song of Six Pants , and Disorder in the Court As such, these four shorts frequently appear on budget VHS and DVD compilations.
